The special home of the tilma (cloak) of Juan Diego, to whom the mother of Jesus Christ appeared on a hill just outside Mexico City, is part of a complex that is the one of the most important shrines to Catholics around the world. Catholic mythology holds that after Mary appeared to Juan, he had trouble convincing others of his vision until he produced this cloak and said that the image of Mary on it had simply appeared there. So, obviously, it’s one of the most important religious artifacts in the world. Millions of people make the pilgrimage to Tepeyac to see the cloak and visit the basilica every year.
